Lovers & Longing: Sienna Tenn’s “i don’t wanna kiss love goodbye”

Sienna Tenn’s new single “i don’t wanna kiss love goodbye” is a tense, love-filled bossa-nova dream. The Australian dream pop artist describes her new song as “Romantic and glittery, all about fighting for love through its hardest moments.” This is a song for those who stay up all night yearning for a loved one, tossing and turning as you ponder the barriers between you and them. Throughout the song is a sparkly piano and shimmery background effects, enhancing the song’s dream-like atmosphere and longing lyrics. Deep thoughts on love and longing are a strong theme in Sienna’s discography, and this new single is no exception. I recently caught up with Sienna to discuss her new single, Australia, genre experimentation, and zine-making!
Sienna Tenn has always been surrounded by music and it has forever been a place of home, understanding, emotion, and identity for her. Coming to dream pop came naturally as an act of self-discovery and experimentation. “I really believe creating in the moment and setting no bounds for your sound is pivotal and I think dream pop has become the perfect beacon for that exploration–as I tend to really stretch the idea of what dream pop is and what other genre spaces can tie into that.”
Speaking of music as a home, Sienna’s home country of Australia is a hotbed of burgeoning artists making their way over to North America and Europe, but I was curious about the scene in Brisbane. “It has such a large variety of music genres, experimentations, ensembles, cultural and genre explorations that can be experienced in the same venue,” she explained. Sienna celebrates Brisbane and wider Australia for its independent music scene that showcases a vast range of identities.
Something unique about Sienna is her use of zines to promote her previous singles for her EP memory lane, which resonated with Scatterbrain Magazine for obvious reasons. She chose them as an easy and accessible way to connect with her audience. She also told me that “As someone who loves visual art, I felt that zines were the perfect middle ground to connect my music to my love of art, revealing another artistic perspective to the stories I tell musically.”
Sienna released her memory lane EP last year, but this is only the beginning for her career in music. Her dream is to connect with people, and give people the joy, understanding, depth and purpose that music has given her in her life. “I want to make change, impact, and be able to help others the way that music has helped me. The sky’s the limit!”
“i don’t wanna kiss love goodbye” isn’t Sienna’s only great release. Her EP is also worth a listen as a meditation on the decay of relationships and the memories they hold. Her last single, “wish it was you,” is also a personal favourite of mine – a vibey companion to the new single about missing the one you loved after a breakup.
